Ovilla Christian School is the educational arm of Ovilla Road Baptist Church. Our mission is to cultivate an environment in which students may flourish as they become life-long learners, servant leaders, and devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
Christian Education at Ovilla Christian: a three-fold approach
Christian education is unique in the educational world in its focus on the formation of the whole student—spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially—into a fully devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, well prepared for life in the world while not being of the world.
Spiritual life requires cultivation and nurturing, and this begins in the student’s home and in their local church. Parents are the first and primary teachers of their children as they seek to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ovilla Christian School will continue this work and cultivate an environment in which followers of Christ may flourish as they become life-long learners and servant leaders.
We expect OCS families to be actively involved in a local church body, as this is vital for the health of the Christian. Your school community is not a substitute for membership or active involvement in a church.
Our Approach to Spiritual Formation in a Student
Chapels
Elementary chapels are centered around teaching the core biblical truths of Christianity. Middle and High School chapels are focused on living through a biblical worldview in a secular world. Erich Lehmann, OCS Director of Spiritual Life, works with the principals to bring in school leaders, people from Ovilla Road Baptist Church, and other trusted community adults to speak to the students. Once a quarter, we have an all-school chapel, and we participate annually in the ACSI Day of Prayer and See You at the Pole.
Bible Classes
Our Bible classes are structured to provide an OCS graduate with a comprehensive view of the Bible as a cohesive narrative that centers on Jesus Christ. This includes One Story Ministries in Elementary; overviews of the Old and New Testaments in Middle School; and an introduction to Biblical Theology, Hermeneutics, Systematic Theology, and an in-depth study of the Gospels in High School.
Servant Leadership
High School students are nominated to lead within their classes as Eagle Reps, who meet periodically with administration and serve as representatives of their classes. Middle School students have a similar program called Junior Eagle Reps.
The Eagle Pal program pairs a Middle or High School student with an Elementary student to foster a relationship between the older and younger ages. The friends sit together at all-school chapels and spend time together at designated Eagle Pal afternoons throughout the year.
High School students must earn Community Service Hours to be eligible for graduation.
